Engineer - Core Network Operations Technology Staff leadership and management
• Be accountable for meeting and prioritising assigned tasks, targets, and deadlines.
• Be responsible for self-learning and development with guidance from the manager.
• Ensure cohesive working with other team members.
• Provide information to the manager on work accomplishments and individual or team challenges.
• Review performance metric dashboards prepared on various metrics and provide input to the manager.
• Provide support to planning, business, and regional network activities.
Ad hoc and operational meetings
• Participate in operational meetings as required and provide inputs.
• Set up and manage ad hoc meetings for day-to-day operational needs as required.
• Report at process and functional level.
Escalations
• Escalate issues that will result in significant time, scope, employee/client, or cost impact if not resolved.
• Provide solutions to issues that require formal resolution.
Performance
• Ensure effective execution of day-to-day operations and resolution of operational issues.
• Improve productivity and quality through leading practice initiatives.
Reporting
• Report on daily checks (CS&PS core nodes).
• Identify key risks, issues, and dependencies, and propose mitigation actions.
• Provide suggestions regarding operational changes.
Responsibilities
Operational delivery
• Participate in core network (circuit switch, packet switch) area troubleshooting, remote/on-site support, and emergency recovery activities.
• Be involved in system/function verification, trial projects, and support activities.
• Provide technical support in core network (circuit switch, packet switch) areas to the marketing unit, customer service, and other departments.
• Perform new product lab tests, customer environment qualification, and integration.
• Ensure effective maintenance of PS and CS network elements and implementation of network requirements and specifications to support business strategic services and products.
• Liaise with sales engineers and other technical staff to troubleshoot global network problems.
• Perform full system tests daily as required by circumstances.
• Develop and maintain a knowledge base for core network technologies.
• Prepare and provide consulting support to project teams as the need arises.
• Follow up on installations and preventive maintenance on ERICSSON nodes (MSC, MSS, MSC-S Blades, SGSN-MME, GGSN/EPG, BSC, RNC, MGW, SBG HLR-FE, HSS-FE, EIR-FE, CUDB, IMS, vSBG, IPWORKS) and HUAWEI nodes (BSC, RNC, CloudMSE, CloudPCRF, SBC, etc.).
• Oversee software upgrades in core nodes (PNF, VNF, CNF).
• Manage and coordinate roaming configurations and routine tests.
• Coordinate disaster recovery testing and reporting.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports for management and relevant group functions.
• Act as a liaison between the network managed service (MS) vendor and the IT team and/or IT MS vendor.
Qualifications
Education and qualifications
• Baccalaureate in electrical/electronic or telecommunications engineering.
• A master’s degree in telecoms or equivalent would be an advantage.
• At least 4 years of work experience in a medium to large telecoms company.
• Experience in troubleshooting TCP/IP with protocol analyzers, Wireshark, legacy core network operations, and roaming cloud-based systems, etc.
• Experience with ERICSSON and HUAWEI core equipment portfolios will be desirable.
Training
• ERICSSON Centralized User Database (CUDB) 13B Operation and Service Configuration.
• HUAWEI Mobile Core Network Fundamental & UPCC Operation and Maintenance Training.
• GSM System Survey and GPRS System Survey.
• ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System - Requirements / ITIL V3 frameworks.
• Any other relevant training.
Knowledge
• Understanding of 3GPP, ITU-T, and ANSI standards.
• Circuit and packet switched communications protocols such as SS7 (including SCCP, TCAP, MAP, and CAMEL phases 1 to 4), SCTP (SIGTRAN), Diameter, including the ability to design and configure voice, data, and messaging flows.
• Voice SIP/RTP, ISUP, and voice convergence technologies, including IMS (including VoLTE and VoWiFi).
• Online charging system (OCS) and CAMEL in billing and call control.
• Core network virtualization and cloudification.
Skills
• Basic understanding of telecom network key technology is preferred.
• Familiarity with 3GPP, ITU-T standards, core network, and flow is preferred.
• Voice SIP/RTP, ISUP, and voice convergence technologies, including IMS (including VoLTE and VoWiFi).
• Hands-on experience with sniffers, Wireshark, and testing tools in advanced mode.
• Experience with mobile networks (2G/3G/4G/5G), international signaling, and international interconnects is a strong plus.
• Extensive experience with complex signaling interoperability within next-generation intelligent networks.
